🔼 Alexander The Great. When you reach base in 12-of-14 plate appearances, you had a pretty solid weekend.

That’s what Butler junior infielder Makena Alexander accomplished this past weekend as the ‘Dawgs swept weekend action. Alexander’s monster week earned her BIG EAST Player of the week, while her teammate Katie Petran was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Alexander had two hits in each of Butler’s three wins over the weekend, in addition to walking six times, scoring three runs and driving in six RBIs. Petran pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits, no walks and striking out six batters in five innings of work.

🔼 Delivering The Boom. The offense got started early and often for the Butler baseball team on Tuesday afternoon as the ‘Dawgs scored eight of their 10 runs in the first three innings en route to a 10-8 road win at Illinois.

Butler pounded out 11 hits on the afternoon with Will Burgess, Danny Gavin and Gunnar Duncan each having multi-hit performances. Burgess drove in three runs, including the biggest blast of the day with his first HR of the season in the third inning.

🔼 Roll Called. Now that’s how you introduce yourself to the new teammates.

In his first weekend with the ‘Dawgs, junior outfielder Gavin Gilmore earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll accolades after racking up eight hits, a home run and four RBIs during Butler Baseball’s season-opening weekend.

🔼 Back Home. With only four regular season games remaining, the Butler women’s hoops squad returns to Hinkle for the penultimate home game when the Blue Jays of Creighton roll into town.

Jockeying for position in next month’s BIG EAST Tournament, the ‘Dawgs are set to face two teams within a game of them in the standings in the final four matchups.

Tip time tonight at Hinkle is set for 7 p.m.

The Butler swimming squad have their eyes on the prize as the BIG EAST Championships get underway today in Ocala, Fla.
